The hike to Pedra da Gavea, located in the middle of Tijuca Forest, is one of the most popular ones in Rio de Janeiro. Going up the 833 meter high mountain is a challenge, but those who succeed receive a reward with maybe the most spectacular view of the city. It has to be said though that it is not an easy hike, but it is well worth the energy and sweat to get to the top and take this coveted photo of yourself and the view.
The tour involves 2 to 3 hours long hike and for people without any experience with hiking it can be challenging. Most of the trail is pretty steep, so it is important for participants to be in a good physical condition. There is a small part of the tour where we have to do a bit of climbing. It is not necessary to have experience, because the climbing parts are short and easy.
It is important to wear comfortable clothes during the tour. Bring a backpack with water, fruits and some snacks, because during the tour it won’t be possible to buy anything. Make sure to wear good hiking shoes (no flip flops) and on sunny days bring sun block and a cap.
